Biography

Hi, I'm Sam, a web developer and economist with a passion for creating beautiful, data-first, and user-centered digital experiences. With 8 years of experience as a web developer, 3 years of experience building full stack applications, and a Master's degree in economics, I am always looking for new and innovative ways to bring my clients' visions to life.

I believe that design is about more than just making things look pretty – it's about solving problems and creating intuitive, enjoyable experiences for users.

    2023 - Present | Remote

    Developed and maintained the People First Assessment website, a tool designed to help people live a Life of Value.

  • Software Developer @ Need Help Missoula

    2022 - Present | Missoula, MT

    Developed and maintained the Need Help Missoula website, a digital directory of resources to help people in Missoula and Western Montana find the help they need.

  • Data Analysis Volunteer @ City of Missoula

    2019 | Missoula, MT

    During and after Grad School, I completed a few volunteer GIS (Geographic Information Systems) projects for the city of Missoula, and the Missoula Housing Authority. These projects included a python script that merged two large datasets of streets and sign data with >95% accuracy and a map of the distribution of properties that use the Missoula Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher program.

    As a graduate student I taught an introductory statistics lab, and acted as a teaching assistant for a variety of graduate and undergraduate economics courses, including Advanced Econometrics, Economic Communication, and Introduction to Microeconomics.

    I completed the Free Code Camp Fullstack Developer curriculum in 2019. I learned the fundamentals of web development and how to build full-stack web applications. I also learned how to use Git and Github to collaborate with other developers.

    During my undergraduate studies, I learned the fundamentals of economics and how to apply them to real world problems. I also began my journey as a web developer by taking media arts classes focused on digital technologies (e.g. WordPress/CMS Platforms, Adobe Products, etc.)

    I earned a second B.A. in Spanish after being inspired by a Spanish Exchange student who lived with my family for a year in high school. While I never achieved fluency, I am able to hold a conversation, read, and write in Spanish.
